performed in frames of landscape art festival in Neuwerder. 2015
Performance by Irina Demina
Duration: 18 min 48 sec
The source and the material for the performance is the route from the first official ascent of Everest in 1953 by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, that is used as a score for my performance. I calculated the exact number of hours spent by the expedition between the camps, translated it into seconds and minutes to make a clear time guidance for my movement material. The whole journey that originally took 47 days, that is 1128 hours, became 1128 seconds duration of the performance, that is 18 min 48 sec long. The spatial score is defined by the graphical illustration of the route from 1953, so the orange rope lying on the floor in the same form as the red line of the route in the illustration, becomes the spatial guidance for my performance.
